Overview

The Morning Star School was founded in 1965 by the late Mrs. Esme Praah Siriboe. It began as a pre-school with seven pupils and has blossomed over the years into one of the best first cycle Christian Schools in Ghana. It is located in the serene Cantonments-Labone suburb of Accra on four acres of land and currently offers an excellent quality of education to pupils from Kindergarten to Junior High School Levels (KG – 9th grade).

The academic year begins in September and ends in July.

The current enrolment is One Thousand and Seventy (1,070) with a staff of One Hundred and Twenty (120). Twenty four of the pupils serve as prefects on a yearly basis.

Daily operations are managed by three directors who are children of the late founder. Two Head Teachers manage affairs of the Kindergarten/Primary and Junior High Departments respectively. Policy formulation, legal and budgetary issues are developed with the guidance of a Board of Governors.

The School is a founding member of the Foundation for Educational Research and Development (FERD).

The Core and Co-curricula Programmes are selected and designed with care in the relentless pursuit of academic excellence. This should enable pupils to graduate with the requisite basic skills for further education in support of future careers.

The Morning Star School’s mission is “to promote optimal learning to enable our pupils and staff seek and use knowledge for personal growth and development and service to mankind.”

The School’s objectives are:

  • To ensure a wholesome standard of morality by inculcating in learners Christian Principles as a basis for sound education and personal growth

  • To develop the creative and problem solving ability of the individual

  • To prepare learners by equipping them with knowledge, skills, values and attitudes for effective living within the society and for making constructive changes in the society

  • To develop in learners and staff a sense of patriotism, national pride and internationalism for peaceful co-existence with fellow citizens and peoples of other nations

  • To develop the whole child in several domains for optimal learning and to be of service to his or her community

  • To encourage and provide opportunities for continuous professional staff development to enhance effective teaching and learning and the delivery of relevant support services.

CORE VALUES

The School holds dear the values and principles of

  • Loyalty
  • Honesty
  • Respect
  • Hope
  • Justice
  • Courage

There is a high sense of commitment to setting and monitoring targets for the enrichment of educational experiences to consistently exceed national standards.

The pupils of Morning Star School continue to excel with distinction at both state examinations and competitions of various disciplines. The Morning Star School remains to date the only School that has won the National Spelling Bee Championship for four consecutive years (1995-1999).

In August of 2011, the next phase of operations will usher in “The Morning Star International High School (MOSHIGH).” It will be on a different campus and the High School will offer the globally recognised Cambridge IGCSE and A Level academic Programmes.

It is also hoped that both campuses will be able to support Special Education by implementing school programmes for the Hearing and Sight Impaired in future.

The school cherishes the cordial relationship that exists among management, parents, staff and pupils and this will be maintained and strengthened.
